THE SOCIAL FOOTBALL CLUB

ABOUT US

What began on a chilly November evening in 2021 with just ten strangers and a few WhatsApp messages has blossomed into The Social Football Club, a vibrant community of over 200 members right here in Stoke Newington. Created to build new friendships, get people active, and boost mental well-being after the COVID lockdowns, our club quickly became a vital community hub. We’ve rediscovered the simple joy of chasing a ball, but more importantly, we’ve built a supportive network of friends. Walking through the neighbourhood now feels like a celebration, filled with familiar faces we’ve met through the beautiful game.

OUR VALUES

Our motto, “Cerebrum iuvenis, corpus senis” – or “Young brain, old body” – perfectly captures our spirit. We’re about more than just football; we’re about the powerful social connections it creates. The Social Football Club is an inclusive group where everyone is welcome, regardless of gender or skill level. We foster healthy competition and gentlemanly behaviour (no sliding tackles, no shouting), ensuring a friendly and respectful environment for all. Our diverse membership spans ages 30 to 50+ and proudly represents over 30 different nationalities, creating an enriching experience for everyone.

Our Initiatives

As our community has grown, so have our opportunities to play and connect:

Beyond our regular games, we're invested in strengthening our local community:

Primary School League

This season, we successfully launched a league to raise vital funds for Hackney and Islington school PTAs and to deepen connections and build stronger relationships among local schools. Its overwhelming success means we'll be expanding to include 8 schools in the 2025/2026 season.

Hedonistic Summer Tournament

This year we will be hosting the 4th edition of this hedonistic tournament. It brings together 6 teams, a lively kids' football game, and culminates in a memorable summer party for all participating families. Funded by our club's kitty, last year saw 150 people enjoy pizzas, games, and drinks in Clissold Park, showcasing the best of our community spirit.

International Tournament Trip

Our special yearly tradition involves a trip to a different country, where we engage in friendly matches with local teams. It's an opportunity to step away from the everyday, experience new cultures through football and strengthen the camaraderie that defines our club.
